What is hug nation?(www.hugnation.com)
Hug Nation is a world-wide Group Hug.

Those pesky oceans keep us from doing the weekly hug physically, so we do it virtually. Thousands of people around the world gather in front of computers to hug themselves and the people around them at a set time. Rather than a shared physical space, it is a shared mental space.

Regardless of where you are on Tuesday at 1-pm (PST), you can join the Group Hug.

Squeeze yourself in your car or in the supermarket. Hug your spouse or co-worker. Just visualize the thousands worldwide who are joining you at that moment.

Think of it as a sort of prayer -- a communal expression of compassion. It is a weekly reminder that we are connected and we all far more similar than we are different. Everyone can use a hug.

Featuring a feast of cosmopolitan, techno-electro, acid, minimal house and techno beats from legends and prodigies– this is a show San Francisco will never forget.

For over 5 years now, the Superfreq nights have been one of the best underground parties around the world continually challenging eclectic electro, house and minimal techno sounds. They currently run every Sunday at The End, as well as select North American dates with Made Event in New York & Miami with a new quarterly residency at Avalon Hollywood in Los Angeles. After three fantastic seasons in Ibiza, the party successfully migrated from club Underground to the legendary DC 10 last year and the mayhem is now fully underway every Wednesday this summer. In 2005, Superfreq Records was established with partner Luke vB and currently the label is establishing a firm foothold in the world of cutting edge electronic dance music while still retaining a serious element of fun inherent in the Superfreq mantra. On the production front Mr. C has teamed up with Brooklyn’s emerging talent the nefarious Adultnapper, under the guise of the Sycophant Slags.

A true pioneer of dance music Mr. C scaled pop culture heights with the psychedelic-influenced techno-rave act The Shamen in the 1990s as pioneers of the rock/dance crossover and harbingers of today’s scene. His devotion to underground dance music and ascension as tech-house doyen and co-owner of London’s popular The End nightclub has kept Mr. C at the top of his game and a mainstay of the global techno scene. "I phoned round the main movers and groovers in the tech-house scene and said, 'Look, if we all start using this word to create a genre for ourselves, the press can jump on it. All of a sudden we're going to be seen as the leaders of this music.' And it worked.” His commitment to experimentation and credibility in setting the standards for sophistication in all sub-genres of dance music has earned him world-wide prestige as he endeavors to take the sounds of the underground to new and more accessible heights.

Relying primarily on the ancient art of mixing two records, Francis Harris’s precision skills and thoughtful programming have earned him a reputation as DJ equal to his regard as producer an uncommon distinction. Adultnapper tracks have since appeared on some of the world‘s most esteemed labels Steve Bug’s Audiomatique, Frank Lorber‘s Nummer, Mr. C’s Superfreq, Mule Electronic, Dirt Crew, etc. and have been hotly tipped by elite Djs Loco Dice, Danny Tenaglia, Craig Richards, Sven Vath, Laurent Garnier, Sasha, Monika Kruse, Steve Lawler, Danny Howells, etc. thus firmly establishing Harris as one rare purveyor who steadfastly challenges the conventional wisdom and accepted shortcuts of post modern electronic music. On the decks, Harris intricately weaves divergent strains into a thick, pumping groove that subtly rises and falls, drawing the crowd ever deeper within his emotion-laden, melodic journey. Circo Loco at DC10, Ibiza, Cielo in NY, The End, Mulletover in London, Weekend in Berlin, Pawn Shop in Miami, Avalon in LA, are just a few of the world’s discerning floors that have been graced by Adultnapper and been left clamoring for more.

Dollz at Play are a new concept in dance music & with their punky, rocky style are the new generation of Electro-House. If you haven't heard of the Dollz At Play by now then you've been hiding under a rock for the last couple of years. The Dollz continue their proliferation of the dance music world in their own unique style by completely capturing the imagination of the unsuspecting masses.
On top of holding down their residencies at Superfreq at The End in London on Sundays & DC10 Ibiza on Wednesdays the Dollz At Play have been ultra busy jet setting around the world to the far flung reaches of the planet, playing their own take on modern electronic dance music. Since their rise & rise, the Dollz At Play have been picked up by some of the best DJ agencies in the world including www.wildebookings.com worldwide, www.itb.co.uk for the UK & naomismart@gmail.com in Mexico. They've become a sensation not only in the UK where the Dollz are based but also in Germany & France. Not only do the Dollz have great musical taste & technical ability but they are also uber-stylish, often raising the bar with fashion related to music. Having graced the front cover of DJ Mag and conquered gigs most DJs only dream of, Dollz at Play are giving new meaning to “revolution”.

Mighty is opening the flood gates to a minimal-techno-acid-house revolution that will surely change how San Francisco parties – and their bringing the people who created, make, sustain and operate the infamous DC10 and The End to make it happen.

We can start to feel it in the horizon. The far off starts to become tangible. Intimations of dusty peak experience. For us, that means a lot has to happen to move from Vision to Reality. We're doing 2 years worth of projects in one summer. Elevating what a communal musical experience can be - both figuratively and literally. When you see you will understand. To go over the top, as always, is a community effort.
In that spirit, we ask for the support of the community one last time on the late night front so we can create the greatest possible playground for you in Black Rock City. Our last 2 fundraisers fell on weekends with too much going on to do really well. We hope you can rally with us this Saturday. We promise you won't be disappointed in the investment...

Eric is widely known for his standout underground parties (which I highly recommend by the way) and this is great chance to catch him at a more intimate affair. Eric will be bumping out gritty electro and tech house standouts in the closing slot.
Resident JONBOY will be in the third slot with some electro and breaks gems and residents IYAD and FLOORCRAFT will be opening and tag teaming on the progressive tip.

2) AFTERHOURS Party at LEGION - 2am-late - $5 with Shine stamp, $10 otherwise - FULL BAR
Call 415-826-7944 on Friday or PM me for directions
DJS: ERIC SHARP, JONBOY, ROBB GREEN will be playing electro house and breaks

Joining residents Iyad, Floorcraft, and Jonboy for the night will be Dex Stakker from Opulent Temple. He will be bringing the Opulent Temple sound along with our residents playing the breaks, electro, progressive, and tribal beats that we all know and love.

DEX STAKKER (Opulent Temple) - Hailing from Eastern Washington, a place practically devoid of electronic music, Dex found his musical and spiritual home in the San Francisco breaks and house scene. Inspired and fostered by Burning Man camp Opulent Temple, he has emerged as an up-and-comer in the pleasantly competitive SF DJ community, having opened for such breaks and house luminaries as Meat Katie and Elite Force.

The Electro sound has been really hot for over a year now - and at the WMC Miami and Ibiza this summer - Electro was definitely the most played genre. I think the coolest, most interesting music being produced now has an Electro feel - and I love how interesting and intriguing the music is becoming. Electro House generally has a distinctly synthetic sound -- yet many of the Electro songs being pumped out have a fusion of organic and instrumental sounds compiled in a somewhat experimental fashion.

Basically, come on down to Shine - and we'll keep you bumpin' on the dance floor all night long - and you too can become an "Under Cover Electro Lover!"

We served some fine tasting cocktails, we played some amazing music, and we once again had the best vibe you could find anywhere. Please come on down to Mighty next Saturday where we will recreate that feeling we give out on the playa.

This is the first time The Deep End has Mighty to ourselves - so we'll have 2 rooms of music just for our djs. Come reminisce of the days on the playa with us, come view some great photos, and come see some spectacular shows from our talented performance artists. If you're lucky, you might get to see one more performance of the Yatta Dancers and Girls Gone Deep.

All proceeds will go to help fund The Deep End and get us back out there next year.

I have been a part of the camp since 2003, and the Deep End has been my family on and off the playa for most of my time in San Francisco. They raised me from baby DJ to where I am today!

A ton of hard work goes for half the year planning, building, storing, driving, packing for the camp and we couldn't do it without the help of some very dedicated people. However, hard labor (and big brains) are not the only thing that can bring us back to the playa each year. We have to raise the money we've budgeted to continue our tradition on the playa. Much of this is raised from camp fundraising parties as well as camp memeber dues, but we also receive a good amount of money donations from people that don't camp with us but have appreciated our gift to the playa.

I am reposting a fundraising letter that was posted to our list many months ago, calling for any donations that could made to the Deep End. Take a look at Brian Walsh's posting on the Deep End Tribe bulletin board back on 7/6 (http://thedeepend.tribe.net/thread/72cbb41c-6514-4c26-9f01-5278723d828c), which resonates his love for the camp and the amount of work that has gone in as it has grown over the years.

We can't wait to see you on the playa!

Cheers!
shOOey
--------------------------

Hello to the young at heart!

Spring has transitioned into summer and if you are anything like us, you find your springtime thoughts of love and lust have made room for summer longings for DEEP END bass and dust!

The time has come for all the off-playa prep that makes our gifting camp possible, and every day brings us all that much closer to the "Best Year Ever!" If you can close your eyes and think of all the moments (or hours, or even days) you have enjoyed in the embrace of the Deep End Camp, and have ever wondered what you could do to help ensure you have that experience again…here is your chance!

We love to lug our music, art projects, bar, living room, and booze up from the Bay Area each year to put the party on with y'all and give back to the Black Rock community, but the illusion of a free economy on the playa takes a real financial commitment in the regular world. In years past 100% of the funding has come from Deep End members and fundraisers in the Bay area. But with the exponential growth we have had in the last few years, we are reaching out to Burners far and wide – looking for a little love so we can keep the frozen cocktails flowing freely under the misters while the DJ's rock the playa all day long!

So here we stand ready to do it all again. By making a donation through this link or the ones below you are helping to ensure we can bring the fun to you once again this year, better than ever! And remember, every little bit helps and is truly appreciated! ($10…$20…$40…$100…$1000?!?! – only you know what it's worth to you and what you can afford to give, but whatever the amount please DONATE TODAY! )

Also, because we're not so good at collecting email addresses on the playa (we're having too much fun!), we need your help reaching out to everyone who has enjoyed our camp over the years. Please help us get the word out by forwarding this email to your campmates, regional lists, message boards, Friendster/MySpace/Tribe friends and anywhere else you can help us get in touch with Burners who would like to help support the The Deep End.

And whether you can give now or not, we can't wait to see you all at the Deep End on the playa again this year: same time, same place, same vibe!!

Drive safely; we'll see you soon!

The Deep End Camp
High Spirits, Deep Grooves
info@thedeependcamp.com

P.S. To be more eco-friendly and to better manage MOOP, one thing we won't provide this year are the tens of thousands of cups for the bar. Take it to heart, though, the drinks are still free at the Deep End – served with a smile into your own personalized drinking vessel . . . provided by you!!

IMPORTANT NOTE: We will NOT be bringing cups this year. In years past, we have gone through over 20,000 cups, resulting in an enormous amount of MOOP. So...we did not purchase any cups this year. Make sure that you bring a cup with you to the camp this year! If you can, pass this along as well so that people can be prepared. Nothing worse than making the haul from the side of the playa in middle of the day and not being prepared...

We will be featuring our blender drinks, red bull cocktails, Margarita King margaritas, endless vodka drinks, and Sangria. We just loaded the truck this weekend and it is PACKED full of happiness. It should be absolutely rocking out there...
Less than a month before the annual Burning Man festival in the Nevada
desert, Disorient invites you to experience a piece of the playa brought
right to New York City. Under a glowing garden of mushrooms and starfish,
surrounded by beautiful Freeks in next-level finery, revelers will dance to
the soundtrack of their playa memories and prepare for this year's journey
to the desert.

Disorient is an arts collective that has made its presence felt at the
Burning Man festival since 2001, and has brought a new level of Glam-Tech to
the New York underground party scene. With art installations, blinking
lights and pumping bass, Disorient has created unique and unforgettable
events in raw spaces and established clubs throughout Manhattan and
Brooklyn. For this event, they have curated a top notch lineup of west coast
heroes and local favorites to provide mind-altering transportation from this
up and coming Brooklyn nightclub straight to the Black Rock Desert.

The three headliners of the event have each earned their playa pedigree many
times over. Kapt'n Kirk of the Space Cowboys was one of the first DJs to
introduce breaks music to Burning Man. Kramer from the Deep End champions
one of the largest and most respected all-day house music parties at the
event, and is making his NYC debut at Compressor. Also making his New York
debut is Danny Corn from LA's Moontribe. Moontribe has been throwing
legendary full moon desert parties for over 15 years, and Disorient is
psyched to let New Yorkers hear his twisted brand of desert breaks. Rounding
out the lineup are local favorites JP001, Sub Swara, and Galen Mica,
Disorient's own Orion and The Eye, plus burner DJs 3L3TRONIC, and trance
beats from Babla and Luis. Just like the Burning Man festival, this party
offers every genre of music imaginable throughout the night.

Visual Artists AKAirways and Leo Villareal will showcase their
playa-friendly art installations, including interactive inflatables and
intelligent lighting. With two rooms of sound, plus a Puddle Lounge, every
inch of this newly redesigned nightclub will be filled with music and light,
the stage will host dancers and hooping performances, and the dancefloor
will be home to New York's costume elite showing off their Burner couture
for 2006.

If you ever Burned, you will want to get ignited here with us. If you know
friends waiting for their fire to be sparked, start their fire here.
Friday August 4th (2006) 10 pm- 6 am

I'd like to spice things up...so I'm looking for 80's remixes. Give me what you have ... or send me to iTunes, Napster, beatport ... or where ever i can download some bitchin' remixes. I really want some prince remixes. I know they are out there...I just can't seem to find them. I would love anything that may just have obvious samplings too...even from the 60's...70's...90's.

Message A Bottle -The Police
Another One Bites The Dust -Queen
Shout -Tears for Fears
Dreams -Featuring Stevie Nicks (Fleetwood Mac)
Common Ground - A Joint Fundraising Partay with The Deep End and Opulent Temple

The Deep End and Opulent Temple have been providing constant entertainment Day and Night out at Burning Man for many years. All proceeds from the door go directly to our camps to continue on that strong tradition this year. Both camps are serving up our djs this night and finding Common Ground to rock the night away.

These two Burning Man camps may hail from opposite sides of the playa, and play opposite shifts of the clock, but both are known for dishing out stellar entertainment every year. Finally, the same talent that keeps The Deep End grooving in the sunshine and the Opulent Temple rocking out under the stars, united on Common Ground. This cross-pollenation of music and friends makes for one hell of a send-off party for the burn!

Catalyst Cocktails is located South of Market at 312 Harriet Street (at Bryant b/t 6th & 7th). 9pm-2am.

Lineup:

Mancub (Space Cowboys/Sleevin Records)
It is hard to nail his style down, most would say “funky, sometimes nasty”.Chip “Mancub” Corwin is currently voted as a top ten dj of San Francisco. He has been blowing up the block party jams for over ten years. Mancub has a very diffinitive style of turntable tricks that have earned him slots beside some of the dance industry’s biggest headliners. His turntable antics are too numerous to mention but include scratching while wearing boxing gloves, he certainly knows how to work the crowd into a frenzy!!
Shabadoo (Dubalicious/Lucid)

Hello all…

As you know, I have been very involved with the Deep End since its founding in 2002. It has been a true devotion for which I have received back much more than I have put in. That’s hard to believe when I look back at the gallons of sweat and tears that were left on the playa, in the driver’s seats of trucks and busses, and in storage units. But the friendships, pride and experiences I have earned by being involved with the Deep End over the past 4 years outweigh any amount of pain or effort that I have put in.

Two years ago, as I felt my time become consumed, I stated that I did not want the Deep End to be a historical reference in the annals of Burning Man. It was important that we set the organization up to have new leadership, fresh ideas and a growing spirit. And as I removed myself from the exec committee this year I have witnessed just that! New leaders like Matt & Chris Kramer, Jacomo Luigi, Lee Williams and others have not only stepped up but brought new and powerful energy to the camp. Bigger sound systems. Larger infrastructure. Better storage. Better vehicles. And on, and on, and on. The camp is going to grow far beyond what we dreamed of just 5 years ago. Way far beyond.

Over the past couple of weeks, I have heard of more camps that are not returning to the playa, the newest being El Circo. It is an evolution that is painful yet real and has been repeated through time with the likes of Pinkies, Illuminaughty, Lush, BoomBox, Bianca’s and more. In speaking with many of the organizers and founders of each of those camps, the financial constraints were always an overriding concern in their decision to not return to the playa.

From a fundraising perspective, the execs of the camp decided this year that we would open up and ask our community for financial support. Instead of running multiple fundraisers that may or may not generate revenue, the call would be put to the community to support our gift on the playa. Last year, it took way over $30,000 to produce the daytime spectacle called the Deep End. Booze, ice, generators, stages, living rooms, transportation and infrastructure all add up! I am writing to a group that understands this first hand and can appreciate the budget that it takes to entertain almost 5k people in a day!

So, I ask of you two things:

1. Please make a donation to the Deep End to continue its presence on the playa. Support the new leadership in growing the Deep End and taking it to even higher levels. Allow the Deep End to continue to be the place where you are sure that you will meet so many of the people that you know everyday. Any amount does truly assist and is very much appreciated. We have a link from our website to contribute through paypal here: http://www.thedeependcamp.com/membership/donate.htm . Your contribution will go a very long way in ensuring the Deep End is here in the future.
2. Please send this message along to friends and lists that value the Deep End as well. I would love for you to share a personal story of what the Deep End means to you as you share with your circles. The Deep End has always been about the stories, experiences and people who participate each day; share your experiences!

I personally contributed $10 to support the Deep End and hope that you can do so today as well.

Thanks for your assistance! From the plans I have seen and heard, 2006 is going to be a giant year for the Deep End and it happens with you on and off the playa.

Cheers,
Brian Walsh

PS – I have included the original fundraising message below!
PPS – to answer any rumors or questions, I have decided that I will be attending Burning Man again this year! So…you will see my whiteness and horrific costumes yet again!!
PPPS – I am notorious for not acknowledging individuals who are working passionately to build the Deep End experience. I apologize to you if you are not on this list. I truly do appreciate your efforts and my oversight should not degrade you or your work. Revel that you master your involvement so well that you don’t need additional attention from my old, tired eyes! ;)

_______________________________

Accidental killings with suicide notes are no longer in style, so now they want to HELP people by bartending? I'm so sure! And, oh my gawd, that cool rebel JD (AKA: AJ Medina), who wouldn't mind shooting a gun has decided to spin records instead. Is it an 80's come back? Will Veronica pull herself together and stop the psychotic DJ from killing absolutely everyone at Shine? Come find out! It's gonna be awesome!

The Heathers ask that you totally show up before 10pm to support their efforts. Beats 4 Boobs only gets the door from 7-10pm, so be early and enjoy 80's jams and drink specials. Did someone say Purple Hooter?

Guest Bartending Schedule:
7-8: Clarke, Lynch and DeFalco (AKA Veronica)
8-9: Vanni and Wagner
9-10: Lopez and Thompson

Froe, Gav and Merf make up the nu-skool breaks collective known as The Breakfastaz. With over 20 successful releases and remixes on respected breaks labels such as Passenger, Mob and Against The Grain in little over 2 years, their offerings have received support and heavy rotation from scene stalwarts such as Plump DJs, The Freestylers, Tayo, Ali B, Meat Katie, Aquasky, Krafty Kuts, Deekline and even catching the ear of Zane Lowe, highlighting the enormous impact they’ve had on the scene in such a short period of time.

Their hard work has already been recognised, with the guys being featured on the front cover of IDJ’s ‘Players Of The Year 2004’ alongside the likes of Mylo and The Shapeshifters and also winning Best Breakthrough Act at the Breakspoll World Breakbeat Awards 2005, as well as being nominated for the Best DJ, Best Remix and Best Compilation awards in 2006, too.
